Day 5 of rollback - California Covid spike - governor shuts us down
Friday. 7/17/20
7:00-8:00 - The dog is barking so I go downstairs and take her out. Cheese. I go back upstairs and read Notes on a Silencing. Hydroflask (water).
8:00-9:00 - I make coffee. Shower and I wash my hair. Light make-up. I wear my standard Covid-9 uniform. I drive to my therapy session.
9:30-10:00 - We have never masked before, during therapy, but in light of the new information concerning the fact that Covid-19 is an aerosol virus, and the fact that I truly believe, in my core, that masking is the best way to avoid contracting the disease, I tell my therapist I want to keep my mask on. She doesn’t care and we have my 30-min session, business as usual.
10:00-11:00 - I get another coffee at Starbucks and use one of my gift cards, then I drive by Newhall Park, just to see what it’s like. It’s an older park, huge, with big trees and picnic tables. I don’t stop, though, and drive to Turners Outdoorsman instead.
11:00-1:00 - I have to turn in my duty weapon on Tuesday and it is inconceivable to me NOT to have a gun in the house. I’ve been armed in some form or fashion for 30 years so I need to buy an off-duty firearm. Turners is the only store I know in my community where I can purchase a gun and it’s crazy-busy in here. Everyone is masking and social distancing, thank god. We all take a ticket and wait our turn and I’m not seen until 12:30.
I identify myself and badge the employee, then tell him that my duty weapon is a 9mm glock. He says he has just the gun for me and…he does!! A 9mm Hellcat, reserved solely for law enforcement. It’s lovely and fits my hand perfectly!! I have small hands and the grip is perfect, the gun light; it’s as if I’m holding a small toy. The employee does the requisite paperwork and I make a down payment. I have to wait 10 days for DOJ clearance, so I’ll pick up the gun on 7/28/20. It’s waiting for me.
1:00-2:00 - I drive to several locations looking for Books for America, so I can unload the two boxes of used books I have in my trunk. No luck - I can’t find it.
2:00-3:30 - Home and L. says that she and R. are going to pick up a pizza, then sit outside in the backyard. The backyard is a mess, with leaves all over the place, and I need to sweep it before ANYONE sees the patio. L. says she’ll stall R. by running some errands. I do a whirlwind clean-up and water all my plants. The backyard looks much better.
3:30 - 5:00 - L. and R. return home and offer me a slice of pizza. I also have the leftover salad from Malibu Farms. I finish Notes on a Scandal. Excellent book! Mom was right!
5:00-10:00 - I check my state job email and Ting came thru! She sent me the health insurance form(s) for L. and I. It takes some time to fill out everything but, since I’m on a roll, I complete the Retiree Dental form, too, and add L. to my dental insurance. I also complete the Employee Separation form. Then, I scan everything. If you’ve read my blog before, you’ll know that my scanner is on it’s last legs. It takes an hour to scan all the forms and then I email EVERYTHING to Ting.
The HOA emails me my account number so I register L. and I on the HOA website in the hope that at least one of us will get an email blast telling us when we can sign up for the pool.
I listen to Air Talk, Today Explained, Fresh Air, and Market Place while I work.
I work on my blog.
