Day 21 of rollback-California Covid 19 spike-Governor shuts us down

Possible exposure to Covid-19…

Possible exposure to Covid-19…

Sunday. 8/2/20.

Class enrollment steady at 16…

7:30-8:00 - the dog starts barking but I deliberately wait until 8:00. If I don’t come down until 8:00, maybe she’ll stop barking at 7:00 or 7:30. When I do go downstairs, I see that she pooped next to the stairwell. I take her outside and give her cheese, then grab my coffee and go upstairs.

8:00-9:15 - Shower. Covid-19 uniform. Light make-up. I leave for my therapy appointment.

9:30-10:00 - I have my 30-minute session.

10:00-10:30 - I drive thru Starbucks and get a bacon, sausage, and egg wrap and a tall coffee with steamed almond milk, using a gift card my supervisor gave me for my birthday in May.

10:30-3:00 - Home and I finish Sometimes I Lie. There’s a twist near the end and I had to go back and review parts for better clarity. Overall, it’s a good read and I liked it.

3:00-9:00 - Bad news! As early as last Wednesday, R. was exposed to a co-worker who tested positive for Covid-19. Apparently, her husband tested positive when she came into work on Wednesday, but she never told anyone. R. worked with her from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Saturday (yesterday) - both were masked. Then, R. came over to watch movies with L. on the couch (last night). He was here for about four hours, sitting next to L. I was upstairs, but I opened the downstairs windows when he arrived.

On Sunday, R.’s co-worker called Management and disclosed that she tested positive for Covid-19. The team immediately shut down R.’s Starbucks for the next 14 days.

R. got a Covid-19 test today - the results will be in on Wednesday. He is asymptomatic but that could mean anything.

L. and I spring into action!

We clean the house from top to bottom. She vacuums and steam cleans all of our carpets and I get on my hands and knees (masking, because what if I stir up Covid-19 particles?) and scrub all of our floors - hard. I dust everything, clean the cabinets, counters, and all surfaces. I strip the couches of all throws and blankets, which I then bleach in the washing machine. L. sprays our furniture with Lysol and I wash our throw rugs. I open the windows and clean all of the window sills - we have fans going throughout the house. R. used the downstairs bathroom twice yesterday, so I clean that, too, including all surfaces and the toilet. We remove the hand towel. All of this takes hours, but we work on our respective tasks and knock it out. Will this help? I have no idea. I listen to numerous episodes of This is Unpleasant.

What exactly are we supposed to do? There is no list of online instructions that tells you “What to do when you think you’ve been exposed to Covid-19?” L.’s main strategy is to get as many tasks/items completed on her to-do list as possible because she might be too sick to do anything in the near future. This sounds logical and I check my to-do list as well - is there anything I have to do immediately?? Not ASAP, but my classes start in 13 days and my curriculum is only partially prepared. I’m teaching a full load [four classes if enrollment holds] and don’t know what I’ll do if I’m out of commission. Of course, there’s always the death problem…

9:00-11:30 - I make several batches of the chocolate chip cookies I’ve been planning on making. L. and I have several meals in the freezer that would tide us over for the next several weeks if need be.

11:30-12:30 - There are dishes everywhere so I clean the kitchen and prepare some meals for myself tomorrow: Apple slices; overnight oats; a spinach salad with zucchini; cheese; tomatoes; and eggs.

12:30-1:30 - Upstairs and I have champagne and think about contracting Covid and possibly dying. Nighttime routine and bed.
