Day 12 - LA County enters Red Tier for the first time
Insanity fitness test today…
3/26/21. Friday
10:15 –10:40 - I have an 11:00-3:00 Zoom meeting for my DE#2 class and I’m running late. Downstairs and I say good morning to the animal and take her outside, straight away. She does her business and we go inside – salami slices for her treat and I make my coffee.
-I unload the dishwasher.
10:40 – 11:00 - I’m still in my pajamas, but I was allowed to go dark for last week’s Zoom meeting so it really doesn’t matter what I look like, even though I’m a hot mess. I open the Zoom link and wait until 11:00. While I’m waiting, I pull out my Chapter 9 lecture notes for Specialty Class 1A and review. I’m pretty sure I can re-purpose last year’s lecture for this Chapter, BUT that means I have to listen to a 2-hour lecture in it’s entirety. Because I’m mandated to attend this 4-hour Zoom meeting, this is an excellent time to “double-dip” and work on other activities.
-L. has her own Zoom meeting. While she is online, her boss calls her and informs L. that she will get a $2.00 an hour raise! She proceeds to also thank L. for her service, informing L. that she is the most reliable employee at the studio. L. is also given vacation days. A great ending to the raise saga!!! L. is really happy about this turn of events.
11:00-3:00-I start listening to my own lecture from last year and compare-and-contrast it with the Chapter 9 Review Quiz. At the same time, my DE#2 meeting begins.
-There is an issue with last year’s AUDIO lecture. I will need to break it into two sections and crop the back-end of Part 1 and the front-end of Part 2. L. has the software for this, so she will have to make the changes. I note the minute marks.
-The DE#2 meeting has moved to another lecturer. This instructor is providing the training from a hospital, as she is an on-duty nurse. Her videos won’t play and her face keeps pixeling and freezing.
-My Chapter 9 Review Quiz does NOT coincide with the AUDIO lecture. I pull up the Test Data Bank and create some new questions for the Review Quiz.
-The DE#2 instructor announces that we are going to introduce ourselves and give a brief statement about our background! Seriously?!! there are over 50 people in this class. Last Friday, I was totally ‘glam’ and ready to go and we never showed our faces. NOW, we’re going live? I’m still in my pajamas, having rolled out of bed this morning to Zoom in. I can’t let my colleagues see me like this…so I leave the meeting. I hope I’m not penalized for ducking out early.
When I mention this to L., she says, “You know everyone can see that you’ve left the meeting, right? There’s a sound effect.” Great. I bailed right when the instructor started calling on us [2:00]…BUT, my main concern is the $2000 stipend. I already took this class via College No. 2. so I’m not learning anything new. Also, we’re going back to in-class instruction for Fall Semester 2021 so NONE of the participants will utilize what we’ve learned and this class is a moot point. Like I said before, this class would be a complete waste were it not for the $2000 stipend that I will allegedly receive.
-I log into College No. 2 and check email – nothing of importance.
-I record a PSA [Public Service Announcement] for my Chapter 9 Module, informing the students that I’m using an older format for this lecture.
-Some of the Google slides for this Chapter need to be revised. I send L. an email with my edits as she is in charge of the Google Slide project. I still need the edits for the Chapter 8 Lecture that runs on Monday – there are quite a few and I submitted them to L. weeks ago but I know she’s super busy (sigh). Stressful.
-I’m done working for the day and shut it down.
3:00-4:00 – I make a spinach salad with tomatoes, boiled eggs, and parmesan cheese. L. bought a “Tastes like Pizza” olive oil so I put that on my salad – it’s quite tasty! I read Daffodils and eat my lunch.
-L. leaves for work.
4:00-6:30 – Blog posts
6:30-7:30 – Shower. Covid-19 uniform. I listen to Air Talk.
7:30-8:00 – I take the dog for a walk. More Air Talk.
8:00-9:00 – Yard work. Why won’t the leaves stop falling? I sweep the patio then water ALL of my plants and spray down the Astroturf. I listen to Fresh Air.
-L. returns from work. She stopped at the Cheesecake Factory for flatbread and sourdough bread.
9:30-10:30 – I meet with L. so I can go over editing and splitting the Chapter 9 lecture, as well as her Google slide edits for Chapter 8 and 9. She completes everything and Chapter 8 and 9 lectures are loaded in Canvas and ready to go.
10:30 – 11:15 – Today is my Insanity fitness test. Every two weeks, I’m supposed to update my progress. Here is how my scores shake out:
Two weeks ago Today
Switch kicks 45 82
Jump squats 27 44
Knee blasts 50 90
Power jumps 10 15
Globes 3 5
Suicides 0 10
Push-up jacks 0 9
Low obliques 0 0
There is definite improvement, although at one point I had to stop everything and collapse for 10 minutes because I thought I was having a heart attack. My heart was beating super fast and it wouldn’t slow down. I pulled a muscle in my right hip doing the last exercise – low level obliques – and had to abort. Irritating.
11:15-12:30 – Recover. I have a glass of champagne, read Daffodils, and sit on a tennis ball to roll out the kinks in my right hip and glutes. Helpful.
12:30 – 1:30 – Kitchen duty and I ready my bike bag for tomorrow because I’m going on a bike ride. I listen to a new, critically acclaimed podcast addressing missing Native American women called Stolen: The Search for Jermain. Highly recommend. I have a couple pieces of sourdough bread with butter while I clean the kitchen.
1:30-2:15 – Night time routine. Bed. My body hurts.
