Day 67 of Governor Newsom’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”

David March Park…

David March Park…

Monday. 11/2/20

7:30 - My alarm goes off, but I can’t get out of bed. I listen to The Daily.

8:00 - 10:05 - I’m up and hustling now. Class starts at 8:30 and I should have got up sooner. I take the dog out and she goes potty. Back inside and pieces of chicken for her and I warm up the coffee I made last night for myself.

I post the Discussion Board and class begins. We’re watching a documentary today, but 10 minutes before class starts, I discover that the link to the documentary is “broken” and is no longer being shown on You Tube!! I quickly find it on CSPAN instead, then send an email blast to the students.

As stated in previous posts, this is my 8-week accelerated class and the students. are. wonderful. I don’t hear from anybody except the one lone student who is still incapable of performing the most basic activities on Canvas. I email the same instructions over and over again, before finally giving up. I step away from “work” (home office) and take a shower.

9:00-9:45 - Shower. Covid-19 uniform.

9:45 - 10:15 - Downstairs and I deploy the video quiz. Class ends.

10:15 - 10:45 - I prepare everything for Specialty Class No. 2 at College No. 1 and send an email blast that I will be posting course content early today, although class is still at 2:30. I check all of the assignments - ready to go.

11:00 - 11:15 - I wake up L. so she can airdrop last night’s 2-hour audio file into Canvas. The audio file is corrupted!!! and won’t download. I am NOT going to the Huntington today.

11:15 - 1:15 - Lecture needs to be re-recorded. Instead of me talking for TWO hours again, I play the audio file on my Ipad and L. records the ‘track’ on her tablet. Once finished, L. should be able to drop the newly recorded audio file from HER tablet into Canvas. I hope this works.

1:15 - 2:00 - Lecture finishes recording and L. is not happy because, coincidentally, L. and her friend are going to the Huntington at 2:30. She was supposed to be at her friend’s house at 1:00 but has stayed behind to help me. Now, she is running late. L. airdrops the new audio file from her tablet to Canvas successfully and leaves.

-I post class content early for the students, as promised in the earlier email blast, and leave, too, with my lunch bag in tow.

2:00-4:30 - I go through Starbucks and get a coffee, then drive to David March Park, which I discovered the other day. I find a picnic bench in semi-shade, eat my lunch, and read Money Diaries and my book. I’d rather be at the Huntington. Bad day.

5:00-6:00 - Home. Class ended at 5:30, so I check email and respond to students. It appears that class went well.

6:00-7:00 - Upstairs and I read my book, Welcome to Wherever We Are.

-L. returns. She said the Huntington was great, nobody was there, weather was perfect. She shows me a few videos that she took. L. and her friend went to a wonderful vegan restaurant in Pasadena and she brought back butternut squash pizza and offers me some.

7:00-8:30 - I eat pizza and read Wherever We Are. At some point, I fall asleep.

12:00 a.m. -2:00 a.m. Kitchen duty - it’s a disaster. I go through the refrigerator and purge food items that turned. A large box of Walmart supplies was delivered so I unpack everything and put it away. I wash the throw blanket on the couch.

2:00-3:00 - Nighttime routine. Bed.
