Day 54 of Governor Newsom’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”

The mug says it all…

The mug says it all…

Anybody wonder if the third Covid-19 wave is coming from Trump and his rallies? He is all over the country and none of the Trumpers are masking or social distancing…this is a disaster waiting to happen, like the Rose Garden super spreader event. Also, where is Melania? Trump continues to call Covid-19 a “gift from God” and inform his disciples that this is the best he’s felt in 20 years. But, not a mention about his WIFE, even when she had to cancel a personal appearance with him because she allegedly has a “lingering cough.”

Tuesday. 10/20/20

7:30 - 10:30 - I’m up and I go downstairs to greet the dog and take her outside. She does her business and when we come inside I give her pieces of chicken. Coffee and I head to my home office.

Today is the second day of class and it’s more of the same, with the students starting to catch on and figure out the format. The Chinese student logged in, front and center, at 8:30, on the Discussion Board. He stayed the entire class period and scored a 9 on the Chapter Review Quiz.

One student is having terrible problems doing anything. We have an email thread going and he can’t find the Discussion Board; can’t play the Audio File; can’t open the Google slides. There’s always one. He asks if we can Zoom after class. No.

Every semester, there’s always one or two students who request a Zoom meeting. No. This is so redundant, especially when everything can be solved over email. Before I commit to a Zoom meeting, I always ask for the agenda: “Sure. Can you tell me what you want to discuss so I can be prepared and answer your questions?” Here’s the kicker: they can never articulate the purpose of the meeting! Never! Well, if YOU don’t know why you requested a meeting, and I don’t know why you requested a meeting, we’re not meeting. It’s like that meme “Dude with sign”, where that guy holds up signs in weird places. More recently, he was on the street holding up a sign that read, “That could have been an email” meaning that the meeting was a waste of time and could have been an email instead. That’s Zoom.

10:30-11:00 - I go outside and read my book, Welcome to Wherever we Are.

11:00-12:00 - Grade papers for Specialty Class No. 2. I listen to The Daily and What a Day.

12:00-1:00 - I have salad and soup for lunch. I read a few Money Diaries.

1:00-6:30 - Grade papers. I listen to True Crime Garage; This American Life; Fresh Air; the Global News Podcast; and Crime Junkie.

6:30-7:30 - I do a 40-minute cardio app.

7:30-8:00- I take the dog for a walk. I listen to PBS News hour segments.

8:00-9:30 - I color my hair, then take a shower. I read Welcome From Wherever We Are while the color sets. I listen to a new series I read about - No Compromise - while I shower. This podcast is about militia gun nuts -they sound crazy and dangerous.

9:00-12:00 - I set up tomorrow’s classes at College No. 2. This is the first time I’ll be teaching three classes in the morning.

Grade papers. I have some tortilla chips.

12:00-12:30 - Kitchen duty

12:30-1:00 - I already took a shower and did my night time ritual. Bed.
