Day 40 of Phase 3 - California Covid spike - fireworks canceled

Are we now in Phase 2? It’s unclear

Saturday. 7/4/20

There is not much to say about this day. Last year, I was in Prescott, AZ, and I watched a fireworks display on a lake - it was beautiful. This year, L. and I were lucky to escape Arizona with our lives after our wonderful stay at the Mii Amo Spa which is nestled in the corner of The Enchantment Resort, in Sedona. Today, one in four Arizonians are testing positive for Covid-19…

BUT, L. and I returned to a Covid-19 spike in our own home state and, once again, California is shut down [well, four main counties and their beaches are closed, to include Los Angeles county]. The Arizona 4th of July was a bit of an anomaly for me. In past 4ths, my neighbors and I would bring portable chairs to the cul-de-sac in our gated, two-street community, hide our alcohol in beer koozies and Hydro Flasks, and watch the fireworks display at the Town Center Mall, talking and catching up. Once the fireworks ended, several families and their children would light sparklers and set off poppers in the street, laughing and talking.

That’s been my 4th of July experience for close to 9 years, since I moved into this neighborhood.

This year, none of my neighbors congregated in the cul-de-sac and there were no fireworks displays in my community, other than a few half-hearted poppers from the family next door. That was it. I learned, after the fact, that Mayor R. Rex Perris allowed the city of Lancaster to move forward with fireworks. Had I known this earlier, I would have driven to Lancaster.

This is what I did today (it was soooo hot here):

I finished Panic and Joy and started The Day That Went Missing. I did a 60-minute Pilates and yoga app. I binge-watched Unsolved Mysteries - Season 1. -six episodes. I listened to a 4-episode podcast from American Scandal - The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. Then, I went to bed.

I don’t know what L. and R. did, but they weren’t here…
