Day 39 of Phase 3 - California Covid spike - no fireworks for 7/4/20
No fireworks this year…
Friday. 7/3/20
8:30 - 9:30 - the dog starts barking so I let her out and give her cheese. I heat up my coffee, even though I’m supposed to drink my Hyroflask first. Then, I start straightening the kitchen. R. and L. need the kitchen at 1:00 because they’re going to make salsa so I need to get my food prep out of the way.
Every state, except Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota (where Trump is having a rally with 7000, unmasked, Republicans who refuse to social distance), has banned fireworks due to the Covid-19 surge. Hospitals in Florida and Texas are at full capacity and they are nearing crisis mode. The country had 55,000 new cases of Covid-19 today.
I have never had a 4th of July without fireworks and am sad and depressed about it. There is truly nowhere to go tomorrow…and no fireworks…
So, having said that, tomorrow is a bit of a consolation and I’m pretty excited about it. B.’s daughter and her husband are renovating a home they bought in Pasadena. There is a pool and a pool house/shed on the property, so B. and I are going to spend the 4th of July there, poolside. We’re bringing our own supplies since they just moved in and don’t have the house set up.
9:30-11:00 - Shower and clean my bathroom. I paint my toenails. I dress in my Covid-19 uniform then pick out an outfit for tomorrow and check my bathing suit. I figure out what supplies I’ll need and start putting things in my pool bag. I start a load of laundry.
11:00 - 1:00 - The ground turkey is about to turn so I have to cook it TODAY. I make turkey meatballs, topped with tomato paste, then cut up a “bunch” of celery so I can dip in almond butter for a snack. L. bought plain Greek yogurt the other day, so I dice an apple and stir in walnuts and honey for breakfast this week. I also clean out the fridge and throw away expired food.
I pack the yogurt, celery sticks, and almond butter in my insulated lunch bag for tomorrow and pull out my chaise lounge to put in B.’s car. B. asked me to bring Prosecco, so I put 6 cans in the refrigerator and pull down the mini-ice chest so it will be ready in the morning. I pack plastic utensils. B. is bringing a table and a quilt to put over the table, and the umbrella that we always bring to the beach. He said we’ll order Italian food, to go, (all restaurants are closed for ‘dine-in’) from a nearby restaurant, where he’s had it before, and we’ll bring it back to the house.
I clean up after all of my food prep, sweep, and then get the kitchen ready for L. and R.
1:00-3:00 - I go over my financials and prepare my retirement paperwork for my phone consultation on 7/13/20. It’s finally happening! I’m retiring!! I read online news for a little while. I finish my load of laundry.
4:00 - 6:00 - I make a salad - same as yesterday - and add two turkey meatballs and a few chips that L. brought home. I watch Athlete A while I eat - the documentary is very good.
6:30-7:30 - I do a 30-min cardio workout and a 30-min upper body workout. I put a beach towel, sunscreen, and bathing suit cover-up in my pool bag.
7:30-8:30 - I treat the astroturf in my backyard with Simple Green, but only get halfway through the process before my neighbor comes out in his backyard for whatever reason. Our back yards are adjoining, so every time they come out, I go in - I don’t want to talk to these people. L. has books to give away, so I load them in my car, then pack up all my plastic so I can take it to recycling in the coming days.
8:30 - 9:00 - I talk to B. and he cancels the 4th of July. His daughter and her husband decided to go to a party instead. The blog ends here as I have nothing else to say.
