Day 35 of Governor Newsom’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy”

Thursdays…

Thursdays…

Thursday. 10/1/20

7:30-8:30 - Up and at ‘em. I crawl out of the tent and jump in the shower. L. has a 10:00 class and then is leaving for work at 1:45. I have to record today’s lecture before she leaves so she can air drop the recording into Canvas for me. Covid-19 uniform. Light make-up.

8:30-10:00 - I make coffee for B. and I with my Keurig and start loading my car with my sleeping bag, pillow, overnight bag, etc. B. and I take our coffee outside to the patio and I eat grapes that I brought with me in my insulated lunch bag. We talk politics.

10:00-10:30 - Still on the patio…I’m not excited about leaving because Thursdays constitute a 10-hour work day and generally suck. Eventually, I leave and drive home.

11:00-1:30 - I review my lecture (script) for Specialty Class No. 2 and the accompanying PP slides, then select musical clips for most of the slides. I record lecture and a “public announcement” - L. air drops it into Canvas just in time.

1:30-1:45 - I record a “public announcement” for my 7:00 p.m. class and hand off to L. right before she leaves so she can air drop. Whew!

1:45-2:30 - I have a left-over turkey burger from last night’s grill-fest and answer emails from College No. 1 while I wait for class to start. At 2:15, I prepare the prompt for the Discussion Board and class begins.

2:30-6:00 - There is a lot going on today. I deploy lecture and the PP slides. When that’s finished, I post the link to a podcast that I assigned to the students. After that, I post a documentary and then the accompanying video quiz the last 30 minutes of class. Several students live-chat with me throughout class - I can’t step away - and I respond in real time.

I take attendance and respond to emails from College No. 2 , then start preparing the Discussion Board prompts for tomorrow’s morning classes.

6:00-6:30 - I do a 20-minute Pilates work-out.

6:30-7:00-I prepare for class and post the prompt on the Discussion Board. Class begins and I have some pineapple rice

7:00-10:00 - Tonight, the first hour of class is the Midterm. Then, lecture, a podcast, and a podcast quiz. In other words, it’s a light night.

7:30-8:00 - I do a 20-minute yoga workout then check on the class. Midterm is going well and students scores are relatively high - a good sign.

8:15-8:45 - I take the dog for a walk.

8:45-9:00 - I check in on the class and post the podcast link. Then, I turn on the indoor and outdoor Halloween lights.

9:00-10:00 - I take attendance and live chat with a few students as class rolls on. I work on my blog posts.

L and R. appear and hang out for awhile.

10:00-10:30 - Class ends and I hang around for the next 30 minutes in case the students have questions. I also update the grade book.

11:00 - 12:30 - I take a break for Ben and Jerry’s Fish Food, then return to my office where I start working on a blog post. I’m sooo tired and - big mistake - decide to take a short nap on the couch in my office.

12:30-12:45 - L. wakes me up with a watermelon mocktail that is surprisingly good. I love it.

1:00-1:30 - I water my plants.

1:30-2:30 - The kitchen is an absolute disaster. As you can tell from my blog posts, I rarely go to bed with a dirty kitchen. It takes some time to clean it tonight (or should I say, ‘this morning’).

2:30-3:00 - I turn off ALL the Halloween lights and prepare my lunch for tomorrow. Left over pineapple rice, grapes, TJ snack packs, chocolates, prosecco-in-a-can, etc. I also prepare my coffee.

3:00-3:30 - I realize that everything from yesterday’s camp out is still in my car (sigh). I unload my car and bring everything upstairs, then start a load of laundry. I check my perpetually packed beach bag and make sure all my supplies are there.

3:30-4:30 - Night time routine. Bed.
