Day 34 - California Covid spike - Governor rolls back re-opening

On a bike ride…

On a bike ride…

Sunday. 6/28/20

Governor Newsom has ordered closure of bars and night clubs, including wineries and breweries, in seven counties as corona virus surges; HOWEVER, bars that offer sit-down dining are exempt. ??? I don’t know what this means. LA County beaches are shut down for the July 4th weekend. There have been 200,461 Covid-19 California cases to date.

Today was so fun!

6:00 – 6:30 - awake and lie in bed for awhile, drinking water and listening to PBS Newshour segments. As usual, not enough sleep last night so I have sabotaged myself yet again.  I’ve never been a morning person and have to slowly acclimate.

6:30 – 7:00 – I wake the dog up by rubbing her tummy – today, she is not a morning dog. I take her out then give her cheese.  It’s really cloudy and the Santa Clarita website says its 62 degrees today.  Perfect weather for a bike ride. It might rain, so I bring in my patio pillows. I warm up my coffee.

7:00-8:00 – Shower and light make-up.  I put my hair in a pony tail and put on my bike uniform.

8:00-10:00 – B. arrives and we go on a bike ride.  He’s never been on the bike paths in my neck of the woods so I get to pick where we go.  If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that I’ve been trying to get to Magic Mountain, via the bike path, for months, but there are some stretches of the path where I’m afraid to ride alone because they’re creepy. But, now I have a large man with me – yes, I hate saying that because I’m a feminist, but I’m being practical – and can ride wherever I want.  And so, we ride to Magic Mtn.!!!  I made it! I figured out how to get there and the ride was great!  It’s misting the whole day, but feels great.  I stop at one point and eat the overnight oats that I brought with me in my bicycle basket.

We bike to a place called The Cross Roads and see three other bike paths ‘spoking’ off the center.  Looks like several bike path options for another day – something to look forward to.  We turn around and head back – I think it might rain, but it doesn’t.  There’s another bike path near my street that I want to explore but It’s always looked somewhat isolated.  Since B. is with me, I can take it and I find that it circles back to the lake – it’s not scary at all so I know I can go by myself in the future.

On the way back, I stop again and have the banana bread that I put in my bike basket.  This is the longest I’ve rode and my right hamstring feels fine.

There’s another bike path under Newhall Ranch Road that I want to check out and B. seemed to enjoy biking today so we will go again.

10:30 – 11:00 - Home and B. and I have coffee outside on my back patio – it’s very nice.  My backyard looks great and it’s a cool, cloudy day.  Love it.

11:30 – 1:00 - B. leaves and I transfer things from my “bike kit” to my regular bag, do some light dishes, then check my state email to prepare for work tomorrow.  I have a conference call interview and have to go in tomorrow at 11:00.  There is no way around it. In another matter, my boss rejected a case closure and has requested more investigative tasks, so I will start working on that tomorrow.

Before B. leaves, he gives me a black and white drawing, from a reputable artist, of my all- time favorite character Bosch, played by Titus Welliver. I’ve seen all the seasons and read all of the Bosch books. It’s an incredibly thoughtful gift and I love it! Additionally, I made a passing comment a few days ago about there being “a run” on 2-pound weights. I found a pair on Walmart.com and they were being sold for $359.00. No, that is not a typo - (2) two-pound dumbbells for $359. Unbeknownst to me, B. went to the sporting goods store and bought me 3-pound weights because the sporting good store didn’t have them either. The 3-pound weights are just as good and will be a nice addition to my exercise routine. These are such thoughtful gifts and I really, really love them.

1:00-1:30 - I email B. a link to the Arboretum website, a picture of the peacock I took, and more links to my community bike paths and hiking trails. I take the trash out and get my breakfast and lunch ready for work tomorrow.

1:30-2:00 - I change out of my bike clothes and B. picks me up.

2:00-5:00 - B. and I have leftover Mexican food outside on his patio - he has a beautiful yard - and I have champagne. The food is good - it’s a nice day.

5:00 - 9:00 - B. and I return to my house so we can watch free episodes of Love After Lockup, since L. and I already bought Season 1 and 2. Then, we watch episode 1 of I’ll be Gone in the Dark, which I enjoyed quite a bit. This is a series about the Golden State Killer, but filmed from the perspective of the ‘journalist’, Michele McNamara, who died before learning that her research and ultimate prediction of the killer’s identity were correct - it’s a unique approach to true crime. I will say I was disappointed that her husband remarried one year after she died, even though they were happily married (allegedly) for eleven years.

9:30-11:00 - Lay out clothes for tomorrow and prepare for work. Nighttime routine and bed - I’m tired.
