Day 28 of rollback-California Covid-19 spike-Governor shuts us down
Poolside today!!…
Sunday. 8/9/20
Class Enrollment at 18.
8:30-11:30 – I’m up and I hear the dog barking so I go downstairs and take her out. Still no accidents! Cheese. I finish packing a few more lunch bag items then grab my coffee and go upstairs.
I write a long blog post then have a few apple slices and almond butter. I listen to The 365 Podcast; The New Yorker – Politics and More; and What’s News – Wall Street Journal.
L. and R. leave for the grocery store(s).
11:30-12:00 – I check email for College No. 1 – nothing of import.
12:00-1:30 – Shower. Spa Day. Glam hair, make-up, false eyelashes because…I don’t know why. I packed an overnight “backpack” yesterday, but add a few last-minute items to it. I grab my “perpetually packed beach bag”; lunch bag; and backpack and leave for B.’s house. I binge-listen to Floodlines – from The Atlanta. It’s a series revisiting Hurricane Katrina from a racial perspective. Highly recommend.
2:15-7:30 - At B.’s house. We leave and drive to J. and R.’s house for poolside entertainment [recall that my community pool is essentially closed]. The last time we were there was the first week of July and they were just starting a huge reno project – the pool, however, has always been pristine and remains so. I change into my bathing suit.
What a nice day! I actually get to talk to people [J. and R.] whenever they take a break from all the hard work they’re doing. I’m in a chaise lounge, poolside [which never happens anymore], and I don’t even need to go in the water because it’s enough to just sit by the pool. B. swims laps periodically throughout the day; I eat my lunch and get some reading in: The Heart and Other Monsters.
Around 6:00, we order Japanese food and I get tuna sashimi; a philly sushi roll; vegetable/shrimp tempura; and miso soup. B. orders some sort of ‘bowl.’ We eat outside by the pool as J. and R. don’t have electricity on account of a massive rewiring project underway that costs $15,000. I feel so bad for them but they’re industrious, have a lot of energy, and are knocking out the project. J. is in her early 40s, but looks like she’s in her late 20s – incredible. I’m pretty sure I didn’t look that young when I was her age.
8:30-11:00 – Return to B.’s, drink champagne, and watch three episodes of I May Destroy You at my request since he has HBO and I don’t. By episode three, I decide that I’m out of this series although it’s getting some positive buzz from the critics. Pass.
12:00- Bed. A nice day.
