Not L.’s actual hand, but it might as well be…

4/3/21. Saturday.

8:30-9:30 - L. leaves for work and I get up about a 1/2–hour later. Wash face. Brush teeth. Covid-19 uniform.

I don’t think L. took the dog out because I only heard the door open and close once, when L. was leaving, so I’m ready to take her out.  She’s up and running around, probably because she just saw L. She grabs her tennis ball and outside we go so she can run around and chase birds.  She does her business and we return inside – prosciutto for her treat, coffee for me.

Kitchen duty…and I hear the garage door open!

9:45 – 10:30 - L. is back, having slammed her finger in the car door!  It’s her artist hand!  It’s bleeding and looks terrible.  L. has had a terrible morning.  Traffic was so bad that she wasn’t able to pick up her mobile order at Honu Coffee, even though she already paid for it.  She made the executive decision to turn around and drive to work instead. When she arrived at work, police have the entire street and parking lot cordoned off because an armed robber tried to rob a hair salon, but fell through the roof, naked. L. had difficulty finding a place to park and is now running late.  Then, as she exits her vehicle, she slams her finger in the door, quite badly.

The pain is excruciating and L. thought her finger was broken, but she gamely walks into work and shows her colleague, who has dreams of being a doctor and is in the medical program at COC.  S. deems the finger intact, but that seems to be when the shock of the injury sets in and L. almost faints.  Her supervisor, L., also looks at it and both colleagues tell L. to go home as it looks so painful.  The big bosses are called and they authorize L.’s absence immediately so she leaves.  She can barely move the gear shift out of “park” and is unable to hold a pen or pencil.

L. arrives home very upset.  This is her big money day – she works the most consecutive hours on Saturdays – and she has just lost $100.  It is rare to see L. crack like this – I feel terrible for her. She heads straight for her room.

I ask L. if she wants anything from Starbucks, but she says no.

10:30-12:30 – Grading papers – these are the extra credit essays from my Monday class.

12:30 – 1:30 – I have some of L.’s leftover pasta for lunch and read Small Fry.

1:30-3:00 – I hate grading papers and check out a few sites online to see if I can make it an easier process.  I don’t know why I never thought of this before, but there’s nothing. I grade a few more papers, but I think I need sugar. I decide to go to Lady Di’s to pick up some ‘motivation’ and ask L. if she wants anything – she asks for two caramel-salted chocolate brownies.  L. is back!

-Lady Di’s is right next to one of our bar/restaurants called The Local and the bar is packed.  Although the majority of the seating is on the sidewalk, under a canopy, social distancing is just not happening and nobody is masking because, well, they’re eating and drinking.  Several people are walking back and forth on the sidewalks in the shopping center and something interesting – none of the men are masking, women continue to mask. I listen to insights from the Edge – Untying the Invisible Corset.

I just want to get out of here.  I’m double-masked when I step inside Lady Di’s and I order two brownies for L. and one chocolate-walnut brownie for me.  I show my ID for the teacher discount. After, I stop by the ATM and pull out money, then put $100 into the bag, for L.

3:00-5:00 – Grade papers and eat my “motivation.”

-L. leaves to pick up A.  They’re going to a Japanese restaurant at the Americana tonight.

5:00-5:30 – I take the dog for a walk and listen to the Political Gabfest.

5:30-7:00 – Grade papers.

7:00-8:00 – I do an Insanity workout.  This one is Pure Cardio. It’s the hardest one and I’m supposed to follow it with a 20-min Cardio Abs workout, but I just can’t.

8:00-9:00 – Gardening. I listen to This is Uncomfortable – A lifelong scam while I garden. Then, I turn the mini-white tree lights on and have a glass of champagne at my patio table.

9:00 – 10:00 - L. returns with left-over sushi that she says I can have!  Yay!  Uh-oh…I thought I was done eating for the night. Her finger is much better and she sits outside with me, at the patio table, to tell me about her day.  I’m relieved to see that L. has largely recovered and her finger is not broken. She and A. had a nice time at the Japanese restaurant.

10:00- 10:30 – Kitchen duty

10:30-12:00 – Grade papers.

12:00-12:30 – I can’t help myself and eat the sushi.  Amazing!

12:30-1:30 – Grade papers

1:30-2:00 – Night time routine. Bed. I listen to What a Day
