Day 18 - California Reopening Plan - Phase 3

Trader Joes in the Covid-19 era…does this look 6 ft apart to you?

Trader Joes in the Covid-19 era…does this look 6 ft apart to you?

Today, Orange County deemed that masking is optional!!! for all facilities.

5:30 - I can’t believe I’m up at 5:30. I go back to sleep.

6:30 - 9:45 - the dog is barking. Why? I take her outside and give her cheese, then try to go back to sleep.

9:45 - 10:30 - L. committed to taking the dog to the groomers today - LA County finally turned on the water to Amber’s shop - but the dog’s appointment is at 10:00. I knock on L.’s door to make sure she’s up. L. leaves with the dog shortly thereafter.

10:30-11:30 - I read Smile For The Camera and drink my water. I go downstairs and read Smile For The Camera outside, with my coffee and two cookies. It is soooo peaceful sitting outside without the dog constantly jumping on my stomach. I finish the book.

11:30-1:00 - I shower, wash-and-condition my hair, and get ready. I put on a summer dress and eye make-up. I wipe my counters with Windex and do a swish-and-swipe of my toilet. I start a load of towels. I listen to PBS News Hour Segments and Air Talk.

1:00-2:30 - I have tuna lettuce wraps, then check my personal email to see if both pairs of yoga pants have arrived at Kohls. Only one pair has arrived so there is no sense in making two trips - I’ll wait for the second to arrive as well. While I’m checking my personal email, I read online news. I put the towels in the drier.

2:30 - 3:30 - I leave for Trader Joes (I mask) because I need orange juice and TJ’s has the absolute best OJ, but when I arrive, the line to get in is snaked around and around the sidewalk, like a Disneyland ride. I drive away. I listen to Planet Money.

3:30 - 4:30 - I stop at the bank to pull money out for the groomer then, while I’m in the parking lot, I reserve a mid-size SUV for our Sedona trip on Thursday at Enterprise. I check the veterinary clinic’s hours for tomorrow because the dog needs her rabies shot. I buy fathers’ day cards at the 99 cent store, because that’s the cheapest place to buy cards.

4:30 - 4:45 - I return to TJ’s - the line is as long as ever. I drive home.

4:45 - 7:00 - I pare down a huge bush in the backyard, cutting away the dead stalks and debris. I clean the beds surrounding the astroturf, then spray it down and treat it with Simple Green (approximately 10 buckets). Between buckets, I sweep the patio and water a few of my plants. I ordered a Chinese paper lantern from Amazon a few days ago for the light bulb over the patio table - I replace it every two years - and it arrived today, so I haul out the ladder and install it. It’s extremely difficult to assemble. I listen to Slates Political Gabfest, Market Place, Today Explained, What a Day, and NPR Politics.

7:00-9:00 - L. returns with the dog in tow. She and R. had a “dog date” at the lake, which involved taking the dog for a walk, after she was groomed, for a couple of hours. They leave for Pinkberry, in Burbank. For dinner, I have the herbal chicken I made a few nights ago, a few of the sauteed mushrooms I prepared, spiralized zucchini with Marinara sauce, and the last slice of the homemade bread I made. I eat everything and down it with a glass of champagne. Then, I have two cookies from L.’s stash (I hope she never brings them into this house again). I listen to Death, Sex, and Money and read Elena Vanishing. Dinner tastes great!

9:00-11:00 - I catch up on my blog.
