Day 50 - Governor Newsom imposes new restrictions

B and I watched this today…

B and I watched this today…

1/4/21. Monday.

9:00-9:45  …and “the class that didn’t run” didn’t run.  I planned to wake up early today, in honor of the first day of Winter Intersession, but rolled out of bed around 9:00 instead. The dog is already awake, wagging her tail at the foot of the stairs.  I take her outside and she goes potty – the astroturf definitely needs to be treated because I can smell dog urine.  Note to self.  We go inside for treats; coffee for me and 30-day-old pieces of chicken for her.

I check email from College No. 2 and see that my Dean emailed me at 5:45 a.m. informing me that my class was canceled.  Apparently, it was slotted for 45 students and only 18 students enrolled.  One of the students emailed me and asked about the books.  I responded, “I’m sorry to inform you that the class was canceled due to under-enrollment.  Good luck with your future endeavors!”  She replies, “You mean I can’t enroll now?”  What did I do?”  What part of under-enrollment do you not understand?  I don’t bother responding and “unpublish” the Canvas shell.

9:45-10:30 – Shower. Lotion. Covid-19 uniform. Light make-up. I put my hair up.

10:30-11:15-I sweep the downstairs, then set up the patio table outside.  B. texts that he is en route from Starbucks so I make scrambled eggs and add some of L.’s vegetable dish to it.

11:30-2:30 – B. arrives with coffee and oatmeal for him.  We have breakfast outside and talk politics. I eat my scrambled eggs.

3:00-5:30 – I’m irritated that my class didn’t run and I don’t feel like doing anything. B. and I watch What the Constitution Means to Me, then have a theoretical discussion regarding how we would design a new constitution.  Highly recommend this play. In February 2020, at the Ahmanson Theater, I almost bought  a ticket to the live performance.  There was ONE seat left in the furthest row away from the stage.  Positive that I would be able to get a better ticket in the near future, I passed.  Theaters shut down a few weeks later.

I think watching it from the privacy of my own home may have been the better option.

6:00 – 7:30 - B. leaves and I try to salvage the day as far as productivity is involved.  I go through the fridge and see what we have, then transfer a few remaining leftovers to smaller containers.  This results in a ton of dishes left in the sink that need to be washed. Great.  I do the dishes.

L. bought a bag of 30 carrots two weeks ago and we really need to prep them – I refuse to waste food.  What can I make with 30 carrots?  I wash and peel 10, slice some carrots for steaming, then break down more of the carrots into carrot ‘sticks.’  I meal prep two spinach salads at the same time, adding zuchinni, boiled eggs, tomatoes, and what else??...carrots.

7:45 – 8:15 – I take pictures of our outdoor Xmas lights to use as a guide for next year, then take the dog for a walk.

8:15 – 9:30 – I pick up the dog poop outside, clean the beds, and rake the leaves in the Astroturf area.

9:30-11:00 – L. and I watch The Wilds - Episode 2.  B.’s daughter referred this show and I’m currently watching it with B. and L.  Highly recommend.

L. heard that Disneyland was opening the park to the masses, free of charge.  The rides were closed, but people could spend the day walking the entire theme park.   L. planned to spend her birthday at Disneyland, with friends J. and N., and then return on a separate day with R.  HOWEVER, she learned today only one street in California Adventure is open and Disneyland remains closed.  L. said the entire idea sounds lame and she told me she was disappointed because now she’s not doing anything for her birthday.  She looked so sad, but she’s right – everything is closed. I thought for a minute and proposed the only thing I could think of- the Magic Mountain Holiday Drive Thru. L. said ok and was happy again!  I immediately buy the tickets.  We’re going at 8:00 pm on her birthday…tomorrow.

-L suggests we watch Kobra Kai together.  She and R. are bingeing their way through the series and she thought I would like it so we watch the first episode.  I actually do like it.  Maybe L. and I can go back to watching TV at the end of the day, like we used to.  Kobra Cai might be the show for this…or The Wilds.

11:00 – 12:00 - L. is enrolled in 6 classes for the next four weeks and returns to her room to start working on  assignments. I wasn’t able to finish sanitizing the Astroturf so I return to the backyard and power-wash it.  I pray that I don’t wake up my neighbors.  Originally, I had planned to follow with a Simple Green wash, but I’m getting tired and it looks like that’s not going to happen.

12:00-12:30 – Tomorrow is “errands day” so I prepare accordingly and make my coffee in advance. I’ve been struggling with some significant jaw pain on the left side of my face, so I finally decide to utilize the Oral B night guard that my dentist recommended 5 yratdag

12:30-1:00 – I go through files D through G in my filing cabinet and purge.

1:30-3:00 – I do a HIIT Full Body Circuit workout with 5-pound weights, but pause the work-out in a  couple of places so I can do my nighttime/bedtime routine at the same time.

3:00-3:30 – Finish my nighttime routine.  Bed.
