Day 46 of Phase 3 - Mayor Garcetti proposes lock down of LA
Community pools are closed…
Friday. 7/10/20.
6:30 - 6:30!!! The dog is up at 6:30 and barking!!! I go downstairs and take her outside. She pooped in two places by the front door. Cheese. I get my coffee and go upstairs.
7:00-8:30 - I listen to The Daily, Today Explained, and PBS News Segments.
8:30-11:30 - In my office and I check email for my state job, then summarize the ‘subject’ interview that I had a few days ago. I check email from College Nos. 1 and 2 - it’s summer session so nothing of import. I read online news and eat the last of my overnight oats.
11:30-12:30 - Shower. Light make-up. I wear my Covid-19 uniform (just call me “sporty spice”)
12:30-1:00 - I do an HIIT 30-minute workout app, but listen to the Political Gabfest while I work out.
2:00 - 3:00 - All community pools are still closed because of Covid-19. Please explain why my HOA fees increased by $15 when I am unable to use either my pool or the paddle boats on the lake. It’s supposed to be extremely hot this weekend and B. and I discussed going to the beach, although I’m somewhat against the idea as I’m sure the beaches will be packed since they were closed last weekend, over the 4th of July. I would rather go to a neighborhood pool, but they’re all closed. B. mentioned that his daughter’s community pool was, in fact, open. She lives in the Northpark neighborhood (very posh area and 5 min. from me) and B. thought we might be able use her pool.
My ex lived in the same area and had access to the three community pools, before he moved to South Carolina; L. still has the key to the pools. L. and I drove to the two smallest pools first to see if they were open and if her key would work. Pools 1 and 2 were closed and padlocked, but it appears that L.’s key still works on the pool gate (not the padlock). There was a sign on each pool that said the Northpark pool at the Community Center (Pool #3) is open, so L. and I go there.
OMG - there are so many regulations. This pool is open just three days per week - Tues, Thurs, and Sat, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - and only 63 people are allowed at the pool, at any given time. Residents are limited to 1 hr and 45 min and must bring their own chairs - no more than 4 in a group can go. In order to go to the community pool you have to sign up for the appropriate time slot (remember - only 12:00-8:00) on several clipboards that are lying on a table outside of the pool gate. This is your standard, community pool, people…unbelievable! It appears that L.’s key works on this pool gate as well but, again, not the padlock.
So, I’m there on Friday, at 2:00 p.m., and every. single. time slot. for tomorrow is taken. Someone - I guess the pool police - wrote FULL on each clipboard. The rules also state that “guests” aren’t allowed - you MUST be a resident of Northpark. You have to show ID? To attend a ‘community pool?’ And what if someone is visiting a resident of Northpark and want to go to the pool? They can’t??? It’s not like they’re from Wuhan!! This is ridiculous. Looks like the pool is a no-go for tomorrow and I’ll have to let B. know later today.
3:00-4:00 - L. and I drive to Mom and Dad’s.
4:00-6:30 - We arrive at my parents’ house and social distance outside, talking about Covid-19. It’s fun! B. gave me wine and Lysol - yes, that’s not a typo…it’s difficult to find Lysol in the Covid-19 era - for my parents.
6:30-8:30 - Travel home and L. leaves to deposit a check from my Mom. I start Notes on a Silencing from the ‘book box’ my Mom gave me. So far so good - I’m invested (in the book). L. returns.
9:00-10:30 - L. and I watch Love After Lock-up and scream at the TV. I have a few chips and salsa.
10:30-11:00 - I tell B. about the pool caper. We decide to go to Ventura beach on Sunday.
11:00-12:00 - I’m not sure why, but I’m exhausted so I ask L. to take the dog out and secure the house, which she does. Nighttime ritual and bed.
