Day 35 of rollback-California Covid-19 spike - Governor shuts us down

Return to Harbor Beach Cove…

Return to Harbor Beach Cove

OOPS!!! Out of sequence - somehow this post was delayed…

Sunday. 8/16/20

Class enrollment at 22…the class will meet on Thursday!!

8:00-8:30 - Up and I take the dog out, then water my plants. I make coffee and pack a few more items into my insulated lunch bag.

8:30-10:00 - Back upstairs, I check my ‘perpetually packed beach bag’ to make sure everything is there. Shower. Bathing suit. Light make-up. I listen to Today Explained, Floodlines (the Hurricane Katrina series) and The Weeds. It’s 103 degrees out.

10:00 - 7:00 - B. arrives and we head for the beach. I direct him to Harbor Beach Cove (remember? parking is free here) and we set up “beach camp” and stay the entire day. This is a much needed break as I’ve been putting in long hours at “work” (home), re-tooling my classes for virtual education. It’s 80 degrees here and wonderful.

At first, I wasn’t sure if B. would like this particular beach as there are no waves - it’s a cove, after all, and perfect for families with little kids. But B. DOES like it!! He goes in the water and says he could actually swim laps if he wanted to, since the water is so smooth. Families are set up throughout the sand - socially distanced, of course - and several “pods” [another new Covid-19 term] brought hibachi grills. There are tents and umbrellas all over the place. One family starts playing music, but it’s good music, so it’s okay - they play their music the entire day and I love it.

At 2:00, B. leaves to cross the street to the Harbor Beach Cafe to order lunch. He gets there at 2:15, but staff tell him they close at 2:00. How stupid! What a dumb time to close, especially when there are so many people at the beach. Thus begins B.’s trek through Harbor Village, foraging for food. :-). B. returns an hour later - he’s a good sport about it and says he fulfilled his daily 3-mile walk requirement for today - with a veggie burger for me and a hamburger for him and we break out the alcohol we always bring. My veggie burger is surprisingly good and I eat the entire thing. Again, food that I didn’t cook…TWO days in one week!

7:00 p.m -9:00 - we leave Harbor Beach Cove and stop off at Tomato Joe’s pizza, in Valencia, so B. can get a few slices. He buys a miniature pepperoni and cheese pizza and brings it back to my house, where we eat outside, on the patio. I fix B. a double - just water for me, as I have work to do - and have one piece of pizza. It’s very good.

9:00-12:00 - B. leaves and I go to work (enter home office) and put the finishing touches on my two classes. I need to adjust the high school class slightly, before Wednesday, and, unfortunately, create Specialty Class No. 2 from scratch. It’s been touch and go with this class and I wasn’t sure if it was going to run, but as of midnight tonight, enrollment is now frozen and I am at 22. The class will run on Thursday! I did it.

12:00-1:00 - Nighttime routine. Bed.
