Preparing my Asynchronous classes…

Preparing my Asynchronous classes…

2/10/21. Wednesday

8:30- 9:00 - I set my alarm because B. is coming over for coffee this morning. I go downstairs to take the dog out, but she’s still asleep on the couch.  I rub her tummy three times. It’s difficult waking her up – this is earlier than she’s used to. Finally, she’s ready; she grabs her toy and we go outside.  The dog races after a bird and then goes potty.  Back inside we go – old chicken for her treat and coffee for me.

9:00-9:15 – I check the back yard, water a few plants, and put the patio pillows out.

9:15-10:30 – Shower. Lotion. Covid-19 uniform. Light make-up.

10:30-11:00 – I tidy my bedroom and bathroom.

11:00-2:30 - B. arrives with coffee.  We sit outside at my patio table and talk politics.

2:30-3:30 – B. leaves. I have a salad and read Dead Wake.

3:30-4:15 – I take the dog for a walk.

4:15-6:00 – I take a nap before I go to work.

6:00-1:00 – I go to work.  Spring Semester at College No. 2 starts on 2/13/21 and my classes are Asynchronous, which means the Canvas shells must be up and ready ASAP.

I actually have two classes running at College No. 2 – a Core Class and a high school class.  This semester, all classes are completely asynchronous, meaning they are solely online and we don’t have to meet at specific times. It’s great!  As a result, however, the due dates for all assignments need to be input into Canvas before the classes are “published” since the students are largely on their own.  I tracked my time previously concerning this task and logged it at around 4 hours, but I have a few other tasks to complete as well. At least I know, roughly, how long this is going to take.

-While I adjust dates, I make sure the content matches the syllabus. I don’t have a quiz posted for a podcast that the students are supposed to listen to for Module 4.  I prepare the quiz and manually type in each question in both of the Canvas shells.

-I listen to the last AUDIO-Syllabus I recorded for “the class that did not run”[the 5-week accelerated class that was canceled after low enrollment].  I transcribe the recording and make adjustments so I can prepare a script for the AUDIO-Syllabus for this class. I record the Syllabus for my Core Classes often enough that having a script will be helpful.

-I prepare a “Welcome” email, then post the email to the “Announcement” page in Canvas. Not hungry tonight.

-I make ready the Discussion Boards so the students can sign in for the first day of school for attendance purposes.

-My DE assignments were successfully completed and graded so I’m allowed to move to the next module which is Module #7.  I will look at the content and my next assignment tomorrow.

-I check to see if my French Cinema class is published – still nothing.

1:00-1:30 – I call it a night and straighten the kitchen.  Then I make my coffee for tomorrow.

1:30-2:00 – Night time routine. Bed.
