Day 11 since I was injected with the J&J vaccine
Monday…a work day…
4/19/21. Monday
9:30 – 10:00 - Eating the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches after 8:00 p.m. yesterday was a mistake. I’m back up, at 102.5 pounds. Check and redirect. My eye is much better – the redness is almost gone.
I go downstairs to greet the dog. More poop in the house - great. I rub her tummy three times, she grabs her tennis ball, and we go outside. She does her business and we return inside – old pizza for her, coffee for me.
10:00-12:30 – The weather is nice so I sit outside, at my patio table, and catch up on blog posts.
12:30-1:00 – L. comes outside to show me everything she completed last night. Apparently, the all nighter lasted until 8:00 a.m., when she finally went to bed. She just woke up and is showing me all of her projects…several pieces involving watercolors, a wonderful charcoal drawing of a sculpture. Her work is beautiful. L. finished watching the dumb movie, but opted out of the assignment. It’s a 100-point hit, but L. says every assignment is worth 100 points. I’m sure she knows what she’s doing.
1:00-2:15 – Shower. Lotion. Covid-19 uniform.
2:15 – 2:30 - I look over the Discussion Board and class content, then publish the Module for my 2:30 class. Today is a combo class and the students have to listen to two lectures, back to back, and a podcast, which will take 2 hours.
2:30-3:30 – I have the leftover taquito and rice and beans from my dinner at B.’s house on Saturday and read Small Animals. I set up my classes last night so there is no rush today – it’s nice.
3:30-4:30 – I check email at both colleges, and then start preparing my last lecture to record for Specialty Class 1A. This is Part II and it’s also a mess. I start re-writing it.
-I also start revising the Chapter Review-Part II quiz so it matches the lecture.
4:30 – 5:00 - I post the link to the Video, but it’s on Netflix. Because last semester, the student from hell screamed at me that I was being unreasonable when I asked him to stream a video on Hulu at a cost of $4.00 that I actually reimbursed him via Fed-Ex, I now provide alternative assignments for students who are too financially compromised to afford Netflix. Is there anyone left in America who does NOT have Netflix or who does NOT have the ability to mooch off someone else’s Netflix? Yes, apparently there are three holdouts and they are in my class, emailing me for the alternative assignment.
I send the link to a different video on You Tube and instruct the three students to let me know when they’re done watching so I can email them the Video Quiz. This exercise is so disruptive…every time I set up one student with the alternative exercise, another one emails…at least there are only three.
5:00-5:45 – Continue rewriting Lecture -Part II and selecting audio clips for the recording.
-Continue revising the Chapter Review – Part II quiz.
5:45-6:00 – I set up the 6:00 class last night, so it’s ready to go. Tonight is complicated. There is a 1-hour Discussion Board post, then lecture, but they will be instructed during lecture to pause me on three separate occasions to watch two videos and listen to a podcast. Last but not least, a combination video/podcast quiz on the three media sources…so there are a lot of moving parts.
6:00-7:00 – The students are posting to the Discussion Board for the next hour so I take the dog for a walk.
7:00 –8:00 - Return and I post the link to the first 20-minute video. Can I just say how nice it is that I do NOT have to start working on yet another module for my DE#2 class? This is the time when I would start working on homework assignments. As a reminder, that class ended Friday.
-The students are emailing me their papers and I’m printing them out, one by one. This takes some time.
-I post another link to the second video.
-I start updating the online Final for Specialty Class 1A. I’ve been changing the questions in the Chapter Review quizzes throughout the second half of the semester, and the Final has to be updated to reflect that. I need to look at 50 questions and the multiple-choice responses for each question, then compare them to 5 chapter review quizzes.
It’s important to finish this project before I succumb to a blood clot. If something happens to me and another teacher has to take over the last week of the class, the current Final does not represent the material I’ve covered with the students. It wouldn’t be fair to them. Sometimes I care…
8:00 – 9:00 - I take a paper attendance for the 2:30 class and post the link to the podcast for my 6:00 class.
-Continue working on the Final.
-I post the link to the podcast.
-I take a paper attendance for the 6:00 class.
-I post the link to the video/podcast quiz.
-I finish updating the Final.
9:00 – 10:30 - -I grade the students’ Discussion Board posts and put their scores in the online gradebook.
-I finish revising the Chapter Review – Part II quiz.
-I finish re-writing Lecture – Part II. Ready to record.
10:30-12:00 – I set up everything and record my last lecture of the semester.
L. airdrops the lecture into my Canvas shell.
12:00-2:30 – L and I watch the first two episodes of the documentary Allen vs. Farrow. This is an excellent documentary – L. and I are riveted.
2:30-3:15 – Night time routine. Bed.
